Our return leg takes you in front of San Pedro where you’ll get a glimpse of what our town looks like at night. Listen as the Calypso beat fills the night air and your “Titanic” glides gracefully across the waves. Snuggle with your honey and reflect upon the wonder of it all as the gentle Caribbean breeze massages you gingerly all the way home.

Mainland Tours

Island Tours Want to leave the paradise of Ambergris Caye for a day excursion to the mainland? Why not? Just give the word and we will handle everything for you! Tell us when you want to go and let us make all the arrangements. Or, if you would like to plan your own itinerary, we'll be glad to fulfill it for you.

Belize is world-renowned for its ecotourism and has one of the most interesting mainlands of all the Central American countries. The jungles are lush, the wildlife is abundant and the rivers range from mild to wild.

We highly recommend a river trip. Belize has set aside vast areas of natural forest as sanctuaries for birds, monkeys, jaguar and even the crocodile, making a trip down the river an unbelievable experience that offers rare photographic opportunities to see river life in their natural environments.

Belize is also rich in archaeological sites, which reveal their treasures to those who like adventure. Experience one of the most mysterious civilizations of all, the Maya. Excursions to these sites are by car or by river.

Note: All prices are listed in US Dollars and are per person. Prices do not include park fees or taxes. Meals at Pineapples restaurant are not included in the price of any Mainland Tour.

Altun Ha

$80.00 USD

Altun Ha

Altun Ha, which is Maya for “rock stone water,” is the ultimate Mainland experience in Belize. Get ready for some fun! Hop aboard our 28-foot or 34-foot high speed cruisers and prepare yourself for a thrilling boat ride. Head westward across the San Pedro Lagoon toward the mainland and enter the Northern River. A 30-minute ride up this narrow, winding river is one you won’t soon forget.

Depending on the time of year it is, our skipper may have to keep his speed up to miss the submerged rocks and tree logs. There are, however, areas where the river deepens and your skipper will actually stop your boat so you can observe the jungle wildlife that is so plentiful in this area of Belize.

Your boat will dock at the quaint Village of Bomba. There you can buy souvenirs, or just observe tradition being practiced by local residents. Of course, you may see some of the locals in Hard Rock t-shirts, so don’t expect loincloths.

A van will pick you up in Bomba and take you up the old and bumpy Pan-American Highway to the ancient archeological site of Altun Ha. Stelae, sacrificial altars, various temples and dozens of out buildings have been discovered here. Some have been restored, but many are in the condition they were found. Excavation began back in 1965 by the Royal Ontario Museum.

When your on-site tour of this historical treasure is complete, you’ll hop back in your van and head to one of the most unique jungle lodges in Belize, Maruba. Here you can have lunch, get a massage or facial, ride a horse or just take a nap and listen to the sounds of Belizean wildlife. Of course, these are optional and are not included in our prices. However, they can be, if you want them to be.

After an hour or so at Maruba, you’ll head southwest to the Northern River where you’ll rendezvous with our boat for your return trip to Ramon’s Village Resort on Ambergris Caye.

This is a full day excursion and you’ll probably be starving when you return. Pineapples, our on-site restaurant is the place to curb the heartiest appetite.

Cave Tubing & Zip Line

$210.00 USD

Zip Line

Travel to the mainland of Belize via plane or water taxi where a tour guide and driver will meet you in Belize City and transport you in an air-conditioned bus or van to Jaguar Paw Nature Reserve in the Belize jungle. You will enjoy an easy, guided hike through the rainforest on well-maintained trails, which will lead you across the Caves Branch River and through two dry caves. Your guide will point out interesting flora and fauna along the way, sharing facts and information and answering questions.

When you reach your destination with your inflatable inner tube and headlight, you will enter the crystal clear, cool spring and rain fed waterway and begin your gentle cave tubing journey that will wind through a cavernous underground tunnel system. Be sure to take an underwater camera! You’ll be amazed by the beautiful stalactite formations.

Cave Tubing Upon exiting the cave system, you will float downstream under a majestic canopy of trees lining the riverbank until you reach the beginning of the walking trail where the tour originated.

Showers and changing rooms are provided at the end of the trail so you can change into dry clothes. For the cave tubing tour, it is best to wear shorts and shirt over your swimsuit. Wear shoes that will protect your feet against the rocks and that will not come off easily (flip flops are not recommended). This tour requires walking and that each person carry their own inflatable inner tube, furnished by tour operator. Floating inside the caves and down the river requires some paddling with your arms.

Next is an exhilarating experience on the Aerial Trek Zip Line through the Belizean jungle! Upon arrival, you will take an enjoyable walk along a jungle path through the dense tropical rainforest with views of the river and rock walls with dark cave entrances where jaguars once lived—and may still live!

Cave Tubing Once you’re harnessed up in your gear, you will traverse from one suspended platform to the next, 80-feet above the jungle floor, whizzing past a stunning display of tropical flora and fauna, exotic birds and even black howler monkeys.

The zip trail includes 8 platforms with handrails, a double-cable zip line for added safety and very capable, friendly zip line attendants that help you every step of the way.

After the activities are complete, you’ll be ready for the lunch at a local restaurant that is included in the price of the tour. But tonight when you’re telling our other guests about your Zip Line adventure, don’t forget to satisfy your taste buds by treating them to a fantastic meal at Pineapples on the beach.

Lamanai

$140.00 USD

Lamanai

Enjoy a leisurely boat ride to the mainland and dock near the center of Belize City. There, a van will be waiting to take you through the city and up the Northern Highway. After an hour and fifteen minutes of observing the scenery and cultural elements of Belize, you’ll come to the small bridge at Tower Hill. There you’ll be picked up by one of our friendly associates from Lamanai. You’ll really enjoy this boat ride through a real jungle on a real jungle river. You’ll see monkeys, baboons, snakes, crocs, Macau, parrots and you might spot a Jaguar, like some of our guests have done.

Lamanai means submerged mosquito. Oh yes, I know you’ve read that Lamanai means submerged crocodile, but that’s not true. Lamanaien means submerged crocodile; Lamanai means submerged mosquito, but that’s neither here nor there. When something is as majestic and awe inspiring as Lamanai, who cares what it’s called.

Spider Mokey This archeological site is located beside New River Lagoon and is shrouded by large hardwood trees filled with monkeys and birds galore. The guides, many of whom are of Mayan descent, will tell you tales of their ancestors and one might even tell you that he’s discovered the fountain of youth, and to look at some of them you might think they have. While you listen to their tales, you can climb any or all of these well-preserved Mayan temples.

Once you set foot on this world-class site, your mind will conjure up images of the ancient Maya kneading their grain, roasting their corn and preparing for one of their many ceremonies. As you walk through this abandoned site of an ancient civilization, history seems to come alive as the reflections of the past beckon you to delve deeper into this mysterious world of the Maya.

When your eyes and mind can consume no more, we’ll have a delightful lunch waiting for you. During or after lunch, you can visit the Lamanai gift shop and take home a souvenir from the past. Join your party at the van and head back to Belize City for your boat ride back to Ramon’s Village Resort.

We know you’ll probably be craving roasted corn and stewed monkey for supper, but perhaps grilled shrimp with roasted almonds, glazed with pineapple sauce might suit your taste buds better. However, whatever you’re hungry for, Pineapples on the beach will prepare it for you.

Mountain Pine Ridge

$175.00 USD

Mountain Pine Ridge

This is an exceptional excursion. The owner’s boss loves it. She’s not too crazy about the bumps in the road that you’ll encounter from time to time, but the reward of the Hidden Valley Falls will be worth it.

Fly or take the water taxi from San Pedro to the mainland and one of our competent associates will pick you up in an air-conditioned car or van. He’ll drive you through the center of Belize City as you head for the Western Highway that will take you to Mountain Pine Ridge. As you travel through the forest of long leaf pines you’ll smell the freshness of this beautiful country.

It won’t be long until you reach the Rio Frio Caves. I would say they’re incredible, but the word awesome describes them better. Depending on the time of day your driver stops here, it could make an amazing memory. At certain times, depending on lighting conditions, the bats will exit the caves. If you’ve never seen thousands of bats in compressed flight, you need to see this. But whether the bats fly for you or not, the cave tour itself will be something to write home about.

After your caving experience, wash off in the Rio On. This is an experience in itself. Climb to the top of the hill and slide over large flat boulders as the river provides a natural water slide in the middle of the jungle.

From there, your driver will take you to the climactic portion of your Hidden Valley Excursion. From the edge of a cliff, view the 1000-foot cascading wonder of Hidden Valley Falls. We can attempt to tell you how pretty it is, but you should see it for yourself.

Don Vincent who lives not too far from the falls told us that several men and their wives, in years past, became so enchanted with the beauty of the falls that they hiked to the floor of the valley to get a closer look at this beautiful creation of God’s handiwork. Whether these folks died in their descent to the base of the falls or during their ascent from the base of the falls, we don’t know. No one has ever seen nor heard from them again. Perhaps there’s a new settlement at the base of the falls. Its name could be Lost Horizon. If you’ve never been there, be careful before you say it doesn’t exist. Enjoy!

Tikal

$499.00 USD

Tikal

If you want to see the granddaddy of the Mundo Maya (Mayan World), hop on a Tropic Air flight to Flores, Guatemala. You’ll have to clear customs leaving Belize and as you enter Guatemala, so don’t forget your passports.

As soon as you deplane in Flores our van will pick you up and drive you to this unbelievable site of extensive and on-going excavations.

Tikal is one of the largest archeological sites in the entire Mayan world, and features the tallest structures of their kind in all of Central America. The main temple is by far one of the most impressive in the entire Mayan world and one of the most photographed temples of the Mayan civilizations, second only to Chichen Itza, in the Yucatan, which is probably the most photographed temple on Earth. From the top, you can look out across the jungle and see dozens and dozens of other structures protruding through the dense rainforest.

Imagine this setting 1500 years ago when the city of Tikal was a bustling hive of activity, covering over 16 square kilometers and having over 3,000 structures. With an estimated average population of 45,000, Tikal was a powerful kingdom and dominated much of this region.

The museum at Tikal can now show and tell the mysteries that have eluded mankind for so long. With each year of new excavation and scientific research, the secrets of the Mayan past are being revealed. Be the first to learn about their mysterious past.

You have the option to spend the night at the Jaguar Lodge, near Tikal. There’s nothing like the sounds of the jungle at night. It’s mystical, mysterious and enthralling all at the same time. Since you’ll be at one of the most popular archeological sites in Central America, why rush the experience. Spend the night and extend your adventure. You’ll be glad you did. The accommodations will be just what the doctor ordered.

When you get back to Ramon’s Village Resort from this grand excursion, you’ll be ready to chow down at Pineapples on the beach. Whether it’s a burger or a juicy rib eye steak, we have what you’re hungry for, cooked just the way you like it. Enjoy!

Xunantunich & Belize Zoo

(w/ water taxi transfer) $160.00 USD
(w/ air transfer) $175.50 USD

Belize Zoo

This is a wonderful excursion, particularly if you have kids. They will love every minute of it. You can start your trip by flying from San Pedro to the mainland or you can take a water taxi. At the mainland, an air-conditioned car or van will pick you up, and together you’ll travel up the Western Highway to the Mopan River. There you’ll board a small ferry that is hand cranked across the river. Ain’t nothing like this in New York City. Once across, you’ll drive up a hill and around a curve and there you will see history unfold before your very eyes, the Mayan ruins of Xunantunich.

Savor this experience! Close your eyes and imagine children playing, women roasting corn and men discussing their next conquest. Listen for the cheers of the crowds around the ball court when kings battled kings for power. Take plenty of photos to show your friends back home.

xunantunich After your tour of Xunantunich is complete, join your driver and get ready for the zoo of all zoos. You won’t believe it. It’s incredible! There are no bars, no motes and no barbed wire to keep the animals secure. Simple enclosures that will boggle your mind maintain your safety, while allowing you to see various animals, birds and reptiles in their natural habitat. The folks who came up with this concept are certain to receive great accolades from zoologists in the years to come.

Lunch will be provided at the Five Sisters Falls—an interesting little restaurant between Xunantunich and the Belize Zoo. You’ll dine on a veranda overlooking the rumbling falls as water cascades over huge boulders. If you’re brave enough to encounter the flocks of geese that “protect their river,” then you can take a dip, if time permits.

Your adventure continues as you head for the wildlife habitat known as The Belize Zoo. The zoo was created as a sanctuary for the country's indigenous species and is now home for an impressive array of large cats, primates, reptiles and birds. A visit to the zoo gives you the opportunity to see Belize's amazing wildlife in one location.

kinkajou The Belize Zoo is a “must see”! You won't believe it until you see how the animals are presented to you! No steel bars, no iron or concrete cages. Well, heck, I'm not going to tell you...you need to see it for yourself!

The return ride from the Belize Zoo is about one hour, and like we said earlier, you can fly or you can take the ferry. Mix it up and fly one way and ferry the other. It’s up to you.

You’ll be pretty exhausted after this excursion, but you’ll still need something for supper. We suggest Pineapples on the beach at Ramon’s Village. If you don’t feel like dining out, we’ll bring your entrée and all the trimmings, including desert, directly to your room, where you can dine on your veranda or in the air-conditioned comfort of your cabana.
